The Maritime Radio Historic Society's Coastal Radio Station KPH |
This Morse-only radio station, located near San Franscisco, transmits encrypted messages from time-to-time on all its old coast station frequencies, to the absolute delight of a cadre of Amateur Radio operators spread thinly across the world. Using the station's old maritime frequencies provides an easy solution to the vexed problem posed by US FCC Regulations which prohibit encrypted transmissions on amateur bands. The FCC seemingly makes no distinction made between encoding and encryption, even when a decrypt solution is provided. Maybe with some justification, cold war paranoia is still alive and well. There's ample proof that Russian leopards never change their spots. When KPH does transmit on amateur bands, it uses the call sign K6KPH.
