Current DXCC Standings
ZS6DX&ZS2M
Update 4/8/2023: I had a pleasant surprise when I logged into LoTW and saw that I have finally received the QSL's for by Bouvet (3Y0J) , contacts! Always nice to add a new confirmed DXCC entity to my QRP tally!
Update 2/2/2023:
I made a few contacts yesterday after the storm
passed. Seems like the antenna work a lot better now that it is even higher
up. There is also considerably less noise than on my dipole antennas.
I
was busy this morning so did not get time to play with the radio but this
afternoon at about 15:00 UTC I did get some time. The bands seemed quiet other
than 12m that had some activity. I did a quick SWR check and then started
hunting around. I did not take long to work a few stations including LY2PX and
OY1CT I received 579 reports from both. I noticed that I could not see much
movement on my external SWR/Power meter. When I investigated I was surprised
to find that the radio was still set at around 1W output, this was from when I
did SWR checks!
So it does look like the antenna is working! Now I feel
I am ready for 3Y0J (Bouvet island).
On a DX note, a while ago I
published a list of DXCC entities I still need, this was generated by Clublog.
On the list was the republic of Kosovo. I did find that strange at the time
but hey, if Clublog says so. Anyway, I was looking at my logbook today and
decided to search for Z6 (Kosovo) contacts, well I found 2! So, sorry Clublog,
you suck!
This is not the first time that I found that Clublog is not
accurate, and they even sometimes just decide a contact you made is not valid
and remove your credit for it for the DXCC standings. And this is often for
QSO's that I already have LoTW confirmation? Sorry, I think the ARRL LoTW is a
far more robust and trustworthy system. Time to delete my logs from Clublog,
from past experience I get the feeling that if you are friends with certain
people you get treated differently.....
Unfortunately this means that I
have now also removed the log search that I had implemented via Clublog.
Sorry!
Update 18/1/2023:
While I was playing with antennas I heard TN8K on
12m CW. It was quite easy to work him despite some QRM coming that time of the
day from my neighbor's solar array. Listening up the band I heard a decent SSB
signal. I had to quickly find a microphone! Once I had the microphone
connected and the radio setup correctly I had a nice chat with Andre C5YK in
Gabon. I have not checked but I am pretty sure it is a new one on 12m SSB and
maybe even on 12m!
I have been struggling to get my LoTW and Clublog
totals the same. For some reason Clublog insists and showing lower totals on a
few bands even after syncing to LoTW. I ended up merging logs from three
logbook programs and re-importing into clublog and LoTW. The result was around
1200 "missed" QSO's have been added on LoTW resulting in quite a few new band
slots! I think at some point I did not upload a contest log or two to LoTW!
On the Clublog side things are still not right, maybe even worse! Now my
all time total differs by 10 depending on where I look! The totals have
actually gone down. Oh well, my main concern is LoTW anyway so do not really
care about Clublog.....
Maybe I should just delete my logbook on
Clublog and then redo it, or just leave it? What do you think?
On a
different note, while I was playing with the logs I noticed that I do not have
a certificate for ZS6VER on LoTW. The result is that I cannot upload QSO's for
ZS6VER and cannot get any credits either. I have now requested a certificate
and will upload the QSO's I do have electronically for ZS6VER. Unfortunately
my logbook for ZS6VER was mostly paper and somewhere along the way I lost it,
most likely during the move from the yacht back to land. Who knows what nice
DX I worked that I can now never confirm....
Update 16/1/2023:
Despite the bad conditions on all the HF bands during the day
yesterday 30m did open up after sunset and I spent many hours working DX. I
have not done a full log check yet but I have already received QSL's
confirming 5 new DXCC entities on 30m. Was fun!
Unfortunately after
sunrise today the bands slowly died again. I am not sure why as the
predictions showed "Good" conditions during the day on 10-20m. Maybe there was
a solar storm.
Below you can see my totals as they stand today.
Update 15/1/2023:
The
bands were really bad today. I only managed a few contacts early in the
morning before sunrise. The rest of they day I never heard a DX signal above
S1 so QRP contacts were not possible.
I spent a bit of time today
merging my logs and uploading them to LoTW and Clublog. I also updated and
merged my local logs into the two logbook programs I use, Logger32 and Winlog.
The updates gave me a more complete picture of where my DXCC standings are
and where I should concentrate my time.
DXCC standings on 15/01/2023.
From the above it is clear that I need to concentrate on the WARC bands and 40/80m. Maybe 160m sometime in the future but before I go to all that static I will work on the other bands first! The lower the band the more difficult it becomes with QRP power levels.
My "Wanted" list, the DXCC entities I have not
worked.
Seeing the list of DXCC entities I still need to
work I can see that it will take some time, most of them would need an
expedition, patience will be needed.....
Update, see my note on 2/2/2023 about the inaccuracy of Clublog making
the above list suspect!
Update 14/1/2023:
For the first time in many years I uploaded my logs to Clublog. I have all my
QSO's on Clublog, not just the QRP contacts like I do on LoTW. Below you can
see my all time totals, QRP and QRO as they stand today.
As far as the DXCC entities I have not worked I see that with the exception of
one, Kosovo, they are all uninhabited islands.
On QRP my total, confirmed,
is now 220.
Update 27/12/2022:
I no longer use QRZ for by online logbook or to QSL as posted above so
the logs won't be updated, I am leaving the old log above purely for history
reasons. These days I only use LoTW so that is where I upload new logs.
Update 12/06/2015:
I have not updated this page for a while but a quick note on current
standings, the total is now 320 all time and 192 on QRP, progress is very slow at the
moment with few DX'peditions and rather bad propagation the last month or so.
Update 02/01/2015:
New DXCC entities have been scarce but new additions included Iran on 3 bands
and Nicobar Isl. The all time total is now 311 and 184 on QRP. The next large
expedition to a "needed" one is Narvassa, K1N that should start any day now,
hoping I could work them on a few bands.
Update 05/11/2014: As of today, after updating my
electronic logs and uploading to Club Log my All time total is 303 and QRP
175.
Update 05/07/2014:
I have started a new DX'ing venture, I want to try do
a 5BDXCC QRP, I know
the lower bands will be a real challenge, but along the way my QRP totals will
slowly move towards the magic 300, another target. I need to consult my new log
to extract the QRP contacts, that would be 99% of them, seems I only use higher
power for local SSB chats.
Totals below last updated 26/05/2003
Here are my current DXCC standings per band and mode, I started DX'ing on 6m in June 1996 and on HF in October 1998, during that time I spent 2 years on a yacht with only a long-wire as an antenna but since 2000 I have been very active with always expanding (and I think improving !) my station. A recent move of QTH has also improved the situation with a new location at 1496m ASL with clear take-off paths in all directions.
My preferred mode of operation in CW and where possible I try to operate QRP. I need to go through my logs to see how far I am from DXCC on QRP!. The last 2 contests, CQWW CW and the ARRL 10m contest produced more than 140 DXCC entities on QRP so I must just get the cards. I also like portable/mobile operation at it is a challenge and fun to see the country while operating.
These totals were extracted from my logbook (LOGGER) and includes a summary of all my contacts except for contacts made while on DX'peditions using calls other than my own ZS calls (ZR6VE, ZS6VER and currently ZS6DX). This does NOT include contacts made with my V51VE call.
After a 2 month drought I have now added number 296, and numbers 297 and 298 came during the WPX SSB contest (QRP !), 300 is in sight!
Number 299 (4W3DX) was worked in between other jobs in the shack and was a pleasant surprise, now, who is going to be no. 300?
Well, switched on the radio and there was no. 300 calling without anybody answering! Thanks YA6RF!

DXCC (mixed all band) Total: 300 at last and counting :-)
I have been having lots of fun lately on 17m and 30m, using simple dipoles up at 18m at my new QTH. I am getting great results, every time I give a CQ call I end up with a pile-up !. With winter approaching I am also starting to give more attention to 40 and 80 m with it already showing results on 40m with the total slowly creeping up. I am looking at a homebrew yagi antenna for 30 and 40m that should help a lot. The new ones on those bands are adding up, I just need more time, so little time so many bands....
I have been jumping into any contest that I hear on the bands lately, there are always something interesting to collect during a contest, DXCC entities, states, counties, Islands etc. I have started to collect IOTA information now and I am making an effort to work new IOTA's when and where I hear them.
As you can see I still need to do a lot of work on the lower bands, I have never had great antennas on those bands but I am working on it !. Most of my digital contact were with PSK31 with a few RTTY contacts. I also run HF packet and operate a PACTOR 2 mailbox with e-mail forwarding but I do not include those contacts (do they count for anything ?)
