IC-756/756PROII versus world-class transceivers

Comparative charts
All measurements were made in the ARRL
Lab.
Keep in mind that every 3dB mean two times difference between the signals level, 6dB mean four times, 9dB mean eight times and so on. Another words, one signal with level, let say –124dBm is four times stronger than other with level –130dBm.
SSB/CW sensitivity. Minimum discernible signal (-dBm). Preamp off. High scores are best Explanation: I think there is no need to comment on this, since mentioned here transceivers have appropriate and sufficient value of this parameter. |
Blocking dynamic range (dB). Preamp off. High scores are best Explanation: This parameter is important on today's crowded HF bands. It means the ability of your receiver to lose weak DX signal when some big guy with full 1,5KW PEP starts CQ CQ a couple of kHz up or down of the frequency you are operate on. (see how bad the PROII is, and also why I still have my FT-1000MP !) |
The following two parameters are more important than the previous: | |
Two-tone, third-order IMD
dynamic range (dB). Preamp off. High scores are best Explanation: This parameter is also very important on today's crowded HF bands. It means the ability of your receiver to produce splatters when two or several big guys like above, start CQ CQ near the frequency you are operate on. As you can see IC-756 is still ahead. |
Third-order input intercept (dBm). Preamp off. High scores are best Explanation: This parameter is also very important on today's crowded HF bands. It means the ability of your receiver to distort signal when a big guy from the example to the left is still bothering you! Hey! Are you still there? Ple-e-e-ase QSY! But if you are a happy owner of IC-756 there is no necessity to call him, because your IC-756 is still ahead. Notice how bad the TS-950SDX is ! |
Where the others fail, the IC-756 excels. It is amazing that Icom actually produced a newer radio, the 756PROII with all the great digital features, color screen etc. and it ended up with such an obviously inferior receiver compared to the much older 756 !.
