The Kershaw County Amateur Radio Club has received the ARRL SPECIAL SERVICES CLUB Distinction through:
The AMATEUR RADIO EMERGENCY SERVICES (ARES) organization is made up of FCC Licensed amateur radio operators who have voluntarily registered their qualifications and equipment, with the local ARES leadership, for communications duty in the public service when disaster strikes.
The AMATEUR RADIO RELAY LEAGUE (A.R.R.L) is the national organization representing the interests of Amateur Radio. Whether you’re looking to get on the air for the first time or take your interest in amateur radio to a new level, ARRL has over 100 years of experience supporting hams in pursuing their interest in amateur radio. To qualify as an ARRL sanctioned club, over half of the members must also hold membership in the Amateur Radio Relay League.
KCARC and other WEATHER-READY AMBASSADORS are formally recognized by NOAA as organizations committed to collaborating with NOAA and the National Weather System, sharing preparedness messaging in outreach to the public, and serving as examples themselves by implementing resilience best practices. Several of our members are also closely involved with the NWS Skywarn Storm Spotter Program.
Since the program started in the 1970s, the information provided by SKYWARN® spotters, coupled with Doppler radar technology, improved satellite and other data, has enabled NWS to issue more timely and accurate warnings for tornadoes, severe thunderstorms and flash floods. SKYWARN® storm spotters form the nation's first line of defense against severe weather.
