(This is assumed because the units shown below use the Stenographic Machines, Inc. nomenclature and except for the serial # 2061 no nomenclature is printed or attached to this unit) The unit was most probably Manufactured by. STENOGRAPHIC MACHINES, INC. or ARVIN INDUSTRIES. the alternate military Nominclature is MX-4496. The basic electrical principle of operation is fairly simple, mechanically complex, and very elegant. It uses a complex system of mechanicals to trigger a solenoid that in-turn pulses energy to the tape head as the magnetic tape CA-3B(alt.nom. MA-9) is pulled across by the action of pulling down the lever setting the gears in motion. - shown in the top left there is a push button that is used to place spacing as needed. NO batteries needed - cool huh?
