HOW ABOUT A RADIO?

Well, this isn't CB!  (Citizens' Band)  If you have a CB radio, lock it safely in the basement, or use it to tie down the dog.  You are a ham radio operator (please, not "HAM") and you need a ham radio.  Amateur radio.

But what do you need?

The vast majority of new hams buy a handheld.  A walkie talkie.  Those of us who have been around a while will tell you, this is a mistake.  It will work, and if you are within range of repeaters, it will get you on the air.  But it is very likely you are going to be more than a little disappointed.
