JAERO
JAERO decodes ACARS messages from satellites to planes using the c band. a satellite dish with a c band lnb (3.7 to 4.2 GHz) is therefore required.
Alternatively for the l band (1 to 2 GHz) you could try and make a patch antenna.
For the raspberry pi A SDR dongle feeding the GQRX program which in turn feeds
the JAERO program will work fine.
for a windows installation you could feed the output
of the c band lnb directly into a uhf receiver
covering 1.5 ghz. ( the lnb will be working at the c band frequency of around 3.6 ghz and giving a 1.5 ghz output )
the audio can be fed directly to the audio input of the pc sound card.
Alternatively you could try receiving the l band signals directly with the sdr dongle and use a virtual audio cable to feed JAERO

JAERO
JAERO will run on windows - I can't get JAERO to
compile on a raspberry pi with later versions/raspberry pi upgrades - it use to
work ok

download and listen to a test file
These files may not open using internet explorer
Also note that the author of JAERO is only working on updates for windows 64 bit not 32 but here is a windows 32 bit version which works 100% ok
INFORMATION ABOUT THE INMARSAT
SATELLITES
The below will give a bit of an idea as to where to point your dish and where to look for JAERO signals ( not all frequencies found will carry aero signals )
INMARSAT FREQUENCIES
1545 ghz to 1545.2ghz carry transmissions of 600 and 1200 bauds
1546 ghz to 1546.1 ghz carry transmissions of 10500 bauds ( more inresting messages are generally found here )
Astra 2e/f/g ( television platform, for SKY TV etc ) is located at 28.2 east and Astra 1l,m1,n1 etc is located at 19.2 east so it might help by observing your TV dish direction which will make it easier pointing it at alpha sat ( easiest one from europe located at 24/25 east )
