First off I think I should make it clear that I do not run true Hi-Fi SSB Audio, I actually run Enhanced Audio. To run true Hi-Fi SSB Audio requires a greater bandwidth than 3kHz. I only run up to 2.8kHz on transmit and that's probably all I will ever run.
If you are interested in SSB Hi-Fi Audio I highly recommend paying a visit to the following websites, NU9N - W3OZ and WZ5Q. All are highly informative web sites. Also I recommend listening around 14.178 and 14.168 for the Hi-Fi Audio guys. I would also advise that you listen to the sound bites of the late Godfather of SSB Audio, Bill W2ONV HERE.
Hear my audio here. This is recording is thanks to Phil (2E0BBP) receiving my transmission from my old TS-870S in to an FT1000MP at 6kHz bandwidth.
Well at last, got the rack wired to the rear of the FT-950 and she sounds fantastic, well through the monitor at least.
My Audio Rack consists of;
Mic Heil Goldline Pro (PR20) or Behringer B-1
Behringer UB802 mixer
Behringer Autocom Pro-XL MDX1600
Behringer Ultra-Graph Pro GEQ3102.
Behringer Ultrafex Pro EX3200
Back into the Behringer Autocom Pro-XL MDX1600
Edirol MA-10D Studio Monitor speakers.
Bose Quiet Comfort 2 Headphones.
The Heil PR-20 is a great full range mic that sounds fantastic. With the help of some external Audio Processing equipment the PR-20 is versatile enough to sound however you want it, from that great bottom end rag chew audio to the noise piercing top end audio. I have started experimenting with a Behringer B-1 mic as of 07-05-2008 and initial results are in favour of the Behringer. No on air reports as yet though so this my go back to the Heil.
The Behringer UB-802 Mixer, is used more as a mic Pre-Amp than a mixer.
I then go into channel 1 of the Behringer Autocom Pro-XL MDX1600 to Downward Expand. This help eliminate any background noise.
I then go into the Behringer Ultra-Graph Pro GEQ3102 Equalizer enhance or eliminate certain frequencies.
Next I go into the Behringer Ultrafex Pro EX3200. This is wired for VOODOO AUDIO by 1st going into the balanced input on channel 1, then from the unbalanced output of channel 1 to the unbalanced input on channel 2. I then go from the balanced output of channel 2 back to channel 2 of the Behringer Multicom PRO-XL MDX4600
When I go back to the MDX1600 channel 2, I then compress.
Lastly, it all goes into the Accessory Socket of the new FT-950.
RX audio is rarely heard from the FT-950 internal speaker. Instead I like to use either my Edirol MA-10D Studio Monitors or my new Bose Quiet Comfort 2 Acoustic Noise Cancelling Headphones.
