Triple Headed Transmitter-Distributor
A "TD" (Transmitter Distributor) is what we called a paper tape
reader in the early days of computing. Basically, it can "read"
the holes punched in a paper tape. If you had lots of messages
to send via RTTY, you needed lots of TDs. This device was designed
to meet that need. One would thread the paper tape through the
reader unit, and around the reels seen in the rear. A given unit
could be activated remotely, and viola! your message was sent.
This particular unit is geared for 60 wpm (45.6 baud) and I
occasionally use it to thrill real old-timers on HF RTTY. Note that
I have a paper tape loop in the center unit. One day, I may put
together a page showing how to construct a loop, although you
can probably figure it out. Just takes a paper tape punch, and a
little Elmer's glue.
