Secrets to setting up an Icom ic-7410 for mmsstv and also wspr.

I recently purchased a shiny new Icom 7410 and was looking forward to using it with digital modes as it includes a USB port for control and audio that eliminates using a 3rd party interface. I hooked up the radio and fired up HRD and had no problems but when i tried mmsstv it wouldn't key the transmitter. I tried several things and searched the net without much success.
Finally I edited the string mmstv sends my radio and got it to work. Settings i am using are as follows

Set the radio to USB then set to digital mode by holding the ssb key until a D appears next to  usb on the readout. Without doing this the radio won't transmit. also in the set menu make sure DATA MOD is set to USB and USB MOD Level should be set to about 50% for starters. (You must install the drivers from ICOM's site before connecting the radio to the PC) .  In the mmstv program go to Options -> setup mmstv. click on the TX tab and make sure port is set to none. click on the misc tab and make sure input and output are set to the usb audio codec, mic for in and speaker for out. click ok to close the dialog window.

Next click on Radio command and setup. pick the port listed in device manager for the usb interface on my PC it was Com3, yours may be different. Set baud to 9600 parameters should be set to 8,1,n flow control to unchecked and DTR/RTS PTT should be checked. init is blank and Under Rx  I have \$FEFE80E01C0000FD and under TX I have \$FEFE80E01C0001FD\w10
The 80 that is in both lines is the key it is the id# for the rig. It is different on different rigs. It should be listed in your manual and I also believe it is readable from the radios setup menu as well. Until you get that address correct you wil not have luck getting SSTV to control the rig.  Enjoy mmstv and this info should be useful for other usb interfaced icoms too such as the 7200 and 7600.

Setting up WSPR

I left the following here for anyone interested but now wspr is included in wsjt-x by the same author and supports many more radios...

I wanted to give whisper mode a try and ran into problems. WSPR uses hamlib's cat control to control many modern rigs such as the icom 7410 however the 7410 was not listed as a choice and other models i tried such as the 746 and 7000 wouldn't work.

Here is what i did to get it to work. I looked on the sourceforge page for hamlib to see if the 7410 was a supported radio. I saw that it was listed as untested but with a rig id of 367. I opened the install folder for wspr up and with notepad edited the hamlib_rig_numbers file, and right below the line for the ic-738 added the following line. 367 Icom IC-7410 0.7 Untested

Now i could select the right model however hamlib complained it didn't know that model number. So i went to hamlib's webpage and downloaded the installer for the latest version (2.012 as i write this) Then i opened the hamlib install folder went to the bin subfolder and copied all those files to the folder i had wspr installed to. it will need to overwrite 3 files. let it do so.
Now when wspr was reopened i went to the setup and selected cat control on com 3 at 9600,8,1,N. Bingo now whisper can change bands and transmit on my 7410. Seems to work well. Don't forget to also set tx and rx audio to the icoms usb audio ports.
