Brian's Kayak Journal- Day 011

Backtracking again. On day 9 I cut the stern end of the sheer clamps. I had to be careful because unlike the bow end this time I didn't have extra wood to work with. (the sheer clamp is more than long enough, so when I messed up I just re cut). So I cut WELL into the waste side and planed to the correct angle.

On day 10 I joined one of the sheer clamps to a side panel. It is a bit tricky because the top of the side panel isn't a straight line so I'm trying to bend the sheer clamp without making the other end fly all over. I also drilled some holes for later stitching

Today I joined the other sheer clamp to the other side panel (making sure I made one right side panel and one left side panel) It went a lot smoother than the 1st, I used a clamp as a loop to constrain the sheer clamp so it only had one degree of freedom. About 85%-90% the way through, my staple gun jammed. I unjammed it in fairly short order, but then the spring came undone. Putting it back on with gloves wasn't working, so I clamped the rest of the sheer clamp on and eventually got the staple gun back in working order.
