OE3CWJ

Amateur Radio Station

I have been licensed as OE7CWJ in 1978, today the favorite bands are still from 28MHz above with various rigs and antennas. My job entailed frequent travelling, however recently retired I am active from my QTHs in Bad Voeslau/OE and Bratislava/OM now. My schedule allows activities like participation in VHF/UHF contests again, VHF-DX, Digital Modes (FT8, FT4, APRS, D-Star and DMR) and Amateur Satellites. Despite holding a CEPT-1 license with power class C and appropriate QRO equipment in the shack I am incurably attached to QRP on HF. Occasionally I enjoy taking some equipment on trips and hikes into the great outdoors.

This
site will also deal with the history of VHF amateur radio. In the 1960s, only a few stations could be heard on VHF compared to shortwave and there were hardly any new commercial devices. In the beginning, it was also very difficult to obtain the components needed to build your own VHF radio and they were very expensive. Nevertheless, there was a lot of tinkering and experimentation. Last but not least, the economic upswing and the thirst for research of many radio amateurs made it possible to conquer this new world of VHF frequencies. Even back then, these OMs were already thinking about how to increase activity on these bands.
