WIRELESS INSTITUTE OF AUSTRALIA
The Wireless Institute of Australia (WIA) founded in the year 1910,
is the oldest active amateur radio society in the world.
Western Australian Division founded in 1913
WIA logo
Membership comprises licensed radio amateurs,
short wave listeners and others interested in the hobby of amateur radio.
The WIA is the recognized amateur radio organization for Australia.
IARU logo
Accredited to the International Amateur Radio Union, (IARU) Region III
representing all amateurs Nationally and Internationally.

For 95 years the WIA comprised seven autonomous State/Territory Divisions
with it's headquarters in Melbourne. Federal Councillors from each division
represented their States on the Federal Council.

In 2004 the States virtually agreed to merge, so that the Federal Office became the National Office.

The work of the Wireless Institute requires the support of ALL amateurs
and others interested in the well-being and future of our hobby
in order to counter the pressures exerted by other users of the radio spectrum.
