VK6RTH 1981

The start of many weeks of digging and jack hammering out rock for the foundations of the wind generator tower and the main antenna tower.

The rock was a solid orange gravel type, that was near as hard as granet.

The foundations went down about a metre and were about a metre wide.

A lot of rock had to be removed, all by hand.
An electric driven jack hammer was used to break up the rock for removal.

Those in the photo include Robin VK6ZRE (dark blue shorts), Trevor, VK6MS (orange),Bill, VK6KB (yellow), Jill VK6YL, far left bending down,Sue VK6NSU, centre bending down, Tony VK6?? far right. This jack hammer ran almost all day with rotating shifts doing the work.
