VK6RVP - Victoria Park - 438.425/433.425
This repeater was activated on August 10th 2000.
The site is located on a block of apartments in the suburb of Victoria Park, which is about 5 kms east of the Perth CBD.
The repeater was installed primarily to cover handhelds and mobiles operating in the Perth CBD, Kings Park and Swan River foreshore areas, as well as travellers to VK6 staying in city hotels, where existing 70cm repeaters on the Darling Escarpment did not always reach.

The tower belongs to a local communications company, which houses two commercial UHF repeaters and aVHF high band narrowcast station.  The antenna is about 30 metres from ground level on a small tower and the apartments are located on the crest of a hill that offers superb views to the city and surrounding suburbs, Kings Park and the Swan River.

The photo on the left shows the tower and was taken on an overcast Perth day.  The VK6RVP antenna is mounted on the arm off the left hand side of the tower.  The other antennas on the tower are used by the site leasee.

This photograph shows the equipment room, which is located
within the lift motor room at the top of the building.
At the top of the rack on the left hand side is the VHF high band narrowcast transmitter and power supply.

Below this in the middle of the rack is the VK6RVP repeater and below it is the power supply.  The duplexer for the repeater is fixed to the rack behind the repeater and power supply.

On the right hand side of the photo is the communications company UHF repeaters.

With the equipment room being located at the top the building, coaxial cable runs are able to be kept very short, but all equipment has to be taken up via the stairs or in the frightening lift!

This is the inside of the repeater as it was being constructed
The repeater receiver and transmitter are ex-commercial Tait T-496 transceivers acquired by the group.
The units were modified by Clive (VK6CSW) to allow operation in the 70cm band.

The units were coupled together using
a custom made repeater controller, designed and constructed by Mal (VK6MT) using a PIC16F84 microprocessor and an audio mixing circuit constructed by Rob (VK6TRC).

Power output of the repeater is only
5 watts with the timeout set at
10 minutes and the transmission is encoded with 123 Hz CTCSS.
