In
1993 I started my own Blacksmith shop. I now do it as a hobby do to a bad back
I can not do it for a living. I like to put on shows for kids when I can.
To see the looks on their faces as what looks like cold metal starts on
fire as wax touches it. I like to make projects for friend and family.
It is great to give others happiness with something that I have made with
my own hands.
In
the fall I am a volunteer Blacksmith at Bowens Mills Historical
site. It is located on Briggs Rd. North of Yankee Springs State Park in
Barry County Michigan. Bowens Mills is a old working cider and grist mill built in 1864.
You can watch cider being made or corn being ground which are driven by a water turbine. There
is a Blacksmith and Meter shop in the lower part of the mill. The metal
shop is all belt driven off the turbine. On the site there is also a School
house, plank house, the Bowens house, farm yard, wood right shop and much
more. They also have reenactments such as Civil War, Free Trappers, old qas engine and tractor show,
and a harvest and quilt show. There is also live music and much more.
