Founded in 1955, the Black Diamond Amateur Radio Club (BDARC) has been a cornerstone of the southern West Virginia ham radio community for over seven decades. Our name reflects the rich coal heritage of Raleigh County—a region built on hard work and reliable connections.

In the early 1990s, our club saw a historic surge in membership as the "no-code technician" era brought nearly 100 operators into our ranks. While technology has shifted from the vacuum tubes of the 50s to the digital modes of today, our core mission remains unchanged: Service, Education, and Fellowship.

Today, BDARC maintains the WV8BD repeater, providing reliable coverage across the Beckley area and linking with our sister club W8ARA to ensure that when all else fails, amateur radio is there.
