Brian's Kayak Journal- Day 027

First, an explanation of deck beam attachment. The deck beams are epoxied to the sheer clamps and screwed in place. The next day the screws are removed, a larger hole is drilled and a dowel is epoxied into the enlarged hole. On day 023, the forward deck beam was screwed in place. Yesterday I did the final forward deck beam attachment and screwed the aft deck beams in place. Today I did the final aft deck beam attachment. Actually on of the deck beams was a piece of plywood attached to the aft bulkhead.

Part of the foot brace is a wood block, I spray painted these to waterproof them. (needs another coat or two.)

With all the inside joints taped, what I have would probably make a passable canoe.

The vertical supports hold the kayak suspended to the keep the hull shape correct. The clamps near the bow and stern hold the keel at the correct angle to the side panels.
