Brian's Kayak Journal- Day 031

Started out with assembling the hatch covers. The hatch covers consist of 2 pieces of plywood--the inner piece is about 1.25 inches smaller on each edge (i.e 2.5 inches in both dimensions, though they are not rectangular). The inner pieces are epoxied and nailed to the outer pieces (to keep them centered) and then both at clamped into the bending jig. This isn't the best picture I hope you get the idea.

I clipped the wire stitches as close to the boat as possible. I also removed the staples and screws that held the sheer clamps way back on Day 011. I filed the wire stitches even with the hull--it was slow going at first but eventually I found the correct angle and pressure to use and things went well after that.
