This was the first meeting held by the Federal WIA after World War 2.

Meetings were suspended in 1939 for the duration of the war.
The quality of the original document is only fair and this is reflected in the scanned image.

THE OFFICIAL MINUTES, ANNUAL REPORT AND FINANCIAL STATEMENT

of the 

SIXTEENTH ANNUAL FEDERAL CONVENTION

of the 

WIRELESS INSTITUTE OF AUSTRALIA

Held at Melbourne (Vic.) ... 19th April to 22nd April 1946

The first session of the Convention was declared open by the Federal President Mr. R. J. Marriott at 2.15pm on Friday 19th April 1946, expressing the wish that the Convention would be a success.

The following delegates were in attendance:

Queensland                            Mr. F. W. Nolan, VK4JU
South Australia                      Mr. E. A. Barbier, VK5MD (I think)
Wesern Australia                  Major J. Squires, VK6JS
Tasmania                               Mr. A. Morrisbey, VK7VJ
Federal Headquarters           Mr. R. J. Marriott, VK3SJ (I think)

I addition the following members were in attendance in an official capacity:-

Federal Secretary                  Mr. A. H. Clyne, VK3VX
Assistant Secretary               Mr. C. C. Quin, VK3NQ (I think)
Federal Treasurer                  Mr. T. D. Hogan, VK3HX (I think)
Federal Councillor                  Mr. V. E. Marshall, VK3UK
N.S.W. Division Observer     Mr. J. M. Moyle, VK2JU

Mr. V. E. Marshall on behalf of the Federal Executive then welcomed all the Delegates and expressed a feeling of deep satisfaction that every State of the Commonwealth and every Division of the Wireless Institute of Austalia was represented by a Delegate at the Convention.

Mr. E. Barbier (South Australia) in replying to the vote of welcome stated 
"I feel, and I think the rest of the Delegates do, that we have come here to improve Amateur Radio and to improve our status, and we thank you for your welcome".

Assistant Secretary Mr. C. Quin called nominations for the position of Chairman -

Mov.   Mr. J. Corbin (N.S.W.)
Sec.     Mr. F. Nolan (Qld).

That Mr. R. J. Marriott be appointed Chairman.   Carried.
