Chameleon Antennas

Chameleon Antennas is a high-end (price) and high-quality (durability) antenna products designer and supplier in Nevada, USA. Their Made-In-The-USA products are valued by tacti-cool, prepper, and portable operations users for use across the spectrum from benign to very challenging environments.

The company's User Guides dropbox location is a good source of user manuals for their products -- giving useful information on the construction, assembly, and use of antennas. Check it out for ideas on antennas you can make at home with just a few parts here and there. (See my DIY Basic Vertical / BV and DIY NVIS antennas as examples.)

I have purchased a number of their products, starting with the CHA F-Loop 3 Antenna (DIY version) which offered a significant discount off of the factory assembled price for the purchaser's at-home time (~1 hour) to assemble all the pieces together into a working magnetic loop antenna. It's an excellent antenna at a great price ($300 for kit instead of $500 assembled antenna list price). Antenna is used daily within my indoor ham shack (yes, antenna is inside the house).

My second purchased antenna was the MPAS Lite (with higher power Mini-Hybrid) for use on 2024 ARRL Field Day. A set of four DIY 25' radial wires were attached to the ground spike with hybrid and 17' vertical whip antenna deployment in the back yard for the FD weekend (HOA limitations at this QTH). A second 17' whip and the tactical delta loop hub and top-wire kit were ordered to allow setup as a delta loop in future deployments.

The Chameleon 2024 Black Friday week sale offered the chance to get a 25% discount on a few extras (coax, line winders, US Morse CW key/paddles and a few other odds and ends).

There are many who say that Chameleon products are way too expensive and that hams should just throw some old wire up into a tree to get on the air. While that is likely true for many, those with special situations can spend a lot of time and energy to be radio-active. Being extremely time limited, I find that having confidence that an antenna will be there (complete and ready to go) makes getting on the air more precious and certainly worry-free to the maximum extent. YMMV!
