Perth's only 6 metre repeater was constructed in the early 1980's.
It consists of an Icom IC60 6 metre FM mobile transceiver, which
has been dismantled and separated into receiver, exciter and PA.
The separate circuit boards, along with a repeater control board
were then built into a rack mount housing.
For the first 10 plus years the repeater was installed at Tic Hill.
However it never performed well due to power line noise.
The main high voltage transmision line from Perth to Northam passes
within several 100 metres of the Tic Hill site and causes
considerable interference on 6 metres.
Eventually the 6 metre repeater was removed from Tic Hill and
installed at Roleystone (VK6RAP). The repeater is duplexed into
a dipole antenna at the 63 metre (200') point on the tower.
Unfortunatly the Roleystone site suffers from pager interference
and this interference also effects the 6 metre band,
including the the six metre repeater, resulting it being keyed up
often.
Considerable effort has been taken to solve this interference to
the six metre repeater but to date only limited success.
If the interference problem is sorted out, the location of the repeater
at this site should provide wide six metre coverage for Perth.
June 6th 2001 Update
Thanks to Tony Green, VK6YAG for the recent
rebuild and
modifications to the 6 metre repeater.
We advise you that the VK6RAP 6 metre repeater
at Roleystone on
53.800MHz (-1.00MHz offset) has been connected
into the WIA news network
listeners with 6M FM can now tune into the
broadcast on this frequency.
This repeater will also activate during the
evening rebroadcast of the
news as well as the monthly RAOTC relay, JOTA/RD
broadcasts, etc.
The WIA
exists for all
