Because amateur radio is such a broad hobby you will find ECHO members involved with just about every aspect of it. Besides repeaters ECHO participates in various contests such as the ARRL field day and provides communications for the Tour DuRouge bike ride. Members participate in many other area public service events. As for personal hobbies, members are involved in everything from kit building to WSPR to FT8 to raspberry PI to helping (elmering) newcomers. Everyone is welcome to attend the club meetings and are encouraged to join in on the fun.
ECHO is celebrating 50 years in 2024.
Next club meeting Monday, November 11 at the Red Cross (pre-meeting dinner at Goode Company). Zoom presentation by John Portune W6NBC -- "How to Use Open-Wire Transmission Line in Places Most Hams Think are Forbidden." Few hams would consider laying open line on the ground, or burying it, or putting it inside metal conduit, or laying it on a metal roof. This presentation illustrates the simple tests John performed which show that all of the above are very acceptable with the proper preparations. The low-loss advantages of open-wire line can be gained in most places one uses coax.
