History for the Use of "99"

Occasionally someone asks about the use of "99" at the end of a QSO. It was chosen in 1957 by a member of the old
Missionary Engineering Net as a Christian "Good-bye." "Good-bye" is a contraction of "God be with you." So, "99"
means "God be with you till we meet again." It also means "God bless you and all that you are doing in His Service."
It was the latter meaning that the originator had particularly in mind.
