USB Instrument Firmware Update Notes

Guidance / notes to update the firmware of the TinyDevices…

TinyGTC
  • Update guidance at https://www.tinydevices.org/wiki/pmwiki.php?n=TinyGTC.FirmwareUpdate
  • Get DFU file from linked folder on above page. Copy to Win11 PC folder location in Documents.
  • Start DFU Buddy software on Win11 PC in administrator mode.
  • Hold down jog-wheel on TinyGTC and turn on power switch.
  • Connect TinyGTC to Win11 PC using USB-C to USB-A cable. Computer should make a do-di sound on USB cable insertion into PC.
  • Select rescan on DFU Buddy SW to find device (upper right button).
  • Navigate to saved DFU file location, select file.
  • Check confirmation box at lower left and load new FW. Watch while three status updates complete.
  • When complete, unplug TinyGTC from PC, power off, power on.
  • Check that About menu shows new FW version.
TinySA-Ultra

  • Connect the loop back cable and run a calibration to ensure all physical hardware is working properly.
  • Use Win10 machine as this has the needed STM32 driver loaded already. (Or load new software package with needed driver on Win11 machine.)
  • Get DFU file from linked folder on above page. Copy to Downloads
  • Use TinySA app for the firmware update process.
  • Start the TinySA in DFU mode (hold in toggle wheel while turning on power).
  • Connect to Win1x PC. Should hear a do-di sound when USBA is inserted into PC.
  • Open TinySA app
  • Click on the two up arrows (deltas) to bring up the DFU load window.
  • Confirm that the TinySA in DFU mode is found by the Win1x PC.
  • Click on the left side folder window to bring up the file open window/selector.
  • Navigate to and select the DFU file in the Downloads folder.
  • Confirm that the DFU update process executes successfully.
  • Restart the TinySA by cycling the power switch.
  • Confirm that the firmware version in the About menu has been updated to the new FW number.
NanoVNA-H4

  • Use Win10 machine as this has the needed STM32 driver loaded already. (Or load new software package with needed driver on Win11 machine.)
  • Get DFU file from linked folder on above page. Copy to Downloads
  • Use TinySA app for the firmware update process.
  • Start the NanoVNA-H4 in DFU mode (hold in toggle wheel while turning on power).
  • Connect to Win1x PC. Should hear a do-di sound when USBA is inserted into PC.
  • Open TinySA app
  • Click on the two up arrows (deltas) to bring up the DFU load window.
  • Confirm that the NanoVNA-h4 in DFU mode is found by the Win1x PC.
  • Click on the left side folder window to bring up the file open window/selector.
  • Navigate to and select the DFU file in the Downloads folder.
  • Confirm that the DFU update process executes successfully.
  • Restart the NanoVNA-H4 by cycling the power switch.
  • Confirm that the firmware version in the CONFIG/VERSION menu has been updated to the new FW number.
