Life Outside Amateur Radio

My wife and I like to travel.

We have covered over 130,000 km (81,000 mi) on our motorcycle in recent years and have only seen a tiny part of what Australia has to offer.

One of the highlights of our travels would have to be our 2016 road trip through to the state of Tasmania. This required a 445km (276 mi) crossing of Bass Strait on the Spirit of Tasmania roll-on/roll-off ferry.

We spent three weeks touring the island state and saw only a fraction of what that state has to offer. Filed with pristine natural beauty and historical sites there is so much to see and do that we plan on heading down that way again at some point to explore a little more.

After boarding the Spirit of Tasmania for the return trip from Devonport (TAS) to the Port of Melbourne (VIC) we spent a further four weeks meandering our way back home to Brisbane, Queensland (QLD). We travelled the south coast of Victoria (VIC) on the Great Ocean Road visiting the The Otways, Apollo Bay and other towns and national parks along the way. Not to mention historic places like Sovereign Hill and the Old Melbourne Gaol when we headed back towards Melbourne.

From Melbourne we headed north to Glenrowan and then east to the Kosciuszko Alpine Way, crossing the state boarder into New South Wales (NSW) and on to Cooma. We followed the south coast road to Sydney through as many national parks and scenic spots that we could find.

Following the road north from Sydney took us along the Putty Road (We don't need no stinkin' highways!), Thunderbolts Way and Waterfall Way before eventually meandering our way back home to Brisbane Queensland( QLD).

In all we were on the road for seven weeks and covered over 10,000 km (6,200 mi) two-up on that trip. We had nothing more than 3 days change of clothes, the wind at our back and the open road ahead of us.

Life is short, enjoy life!

Cheers!
