Welcome to
the Abandoned Highways, BridgesMy name is Marty Blaise and I have been photographing abandoned roads and bridges since the 1980s. I have discovered abandoned bridges while on vacation and I have used old/current road maps to scout possible locations. An abandoned road, bridge or street is simply a segment of roadway that was used at one point in time and is no longer in use. It can be a slab of concrete that stretches for a half-mile, one or two pillars of an old bridge or a piece of street that is now behind a permanent barricade and no longer accessible. -- This website will be more than just a picture gallery. It will research the history of why a highway was re-routed, why those old pieces of bridge are still in place and what was the reason for the abandonments. Information is always welcome and you can email me at [email protected]. Pictured is an old section of Perry Road in Houston (now covered by a divided boulevard). Note: all photos were taken by me, except where I have used satellite views and additional photos from Google maps, Google earth and Historicaerials.com. I will also add some miscellaneous photos and update photos as they become available. These photos are for historical and amusement purposes only. Please enjoy the history!
